ATO Data Matching Programs

The ATO are implimenting a number of data matching programs to ensure that Taxpayers are meeting their tax obligations. The areas being looked at are:

[  ]   MV purchases of $10k or higher;

[  ]   Personal Services Income from placement agencies, labour hire agencies and computer consultants;

[  ]   Mining Industry data matching of payments to contractors and sub-contractors

ATO DATA MATCHING PROGRAMS

 

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has announced that it will be undertaking a number of data matching programs to identify taxpayers who may not be meeting their taxation obligations.

 

MOTOR VEHICLE DATA MATCHING PROJECT

The ATO will request and collect details of individuals or entities that have purchased or acquired a motor vehicle valued at $10,000 or higher from the following sources.

•   Road and Traffic Authority, NSW;
•   Queensland Transport;
•   Vic Roads;
•   Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources, Tasmania;
•   Department for Transport, Energy, and Infrastructure (Transport SA);
•   Department for Planning and Infrastructure, Western Australia;
•   Northern Territory Department of Planning and Infrastructure  (Transport Division); and
•   ACT Road and Transport Authority, Road User Services, Urban Services.

Records relating to approximately 2.5 million individuals will be matched.

 

PSI DATA MATCHING PROJECT

The ATO will request and collect information on amounts paid to personal services entities by labour hire firms, placement agencies and computer consultancies.

These sources include such entities as Aker Kvaerner Advantage Pty Ltd, Drake Australia Pty Ltd, Hays Specialist Recruitment (Australia) Pty Ltd, Link Recruitment Pty Ltd, and Michael Page International (Australia) Pty Ltd.

Records relating to approximately 30,000 individuals and entities who have received contract payments from the listed labour hire firms, placement agencies and computer consultancies will be matched.

 

MINING INDUSTRY DATA MATCHING PROJECT

The ATO will request and collect information on amounts paid by mining companies to contractors and sub-contractors.

The data requested will also include name and address details of the individual who is the main service provider to the entity.

These sources are:

•   BHP Billiton Anglo Coal Holdings Australia Ltd;
•   Rio Tinto Woodside Petroleum Ltd;
•   Xstrata Limited Barrick Gold;
•   Newmont Australia Holdings Pty Ltd Worley Parsons;
•   Exxonmobil Australia Pty Ltd Newcrest Mining; and
•   Oz Minerals.

Records relating to approximately 100,000 individuals and entities who have received contract payments from the listed mining companies will be matched.
